Here’s a well known market in Shenzhen, nestled in amongst the sprawling shopping area that is Huaqiang Bei in Futian, that has mens and womens clothes and much more. This market gets really busy, and a real squeeze, but it’s worth the visit.

There’s a huge billboard at the front of the market with an ad for the Mother Earth store which is inside, so many people simply refer to this as Mother Earth market, but it’s actual name, which is in smaller less noticeable letters is Jiahua Foreign Trade Clothing Market. Mother Earth store inside features a lot of reasonable quality outdoor wear and sports wear.

If your looking for larger mens sizes, hard thing to find in most Chinese mainstream malls, this is worth a look.

But be warned, this ain’t no shiny glitzy mall, whilst the traders inside keep their shops and products tidy the walkways might be a little off putting to some at times. But this is China, and it’s the way these markets have been operating for who knows how long. At many markets, the stalls are simply tiny, there’s no room for any luxuries like rubbish bins etc. so the traders, and shoppers for that matter, toss their rubbish into the walk paths where cleaners do regular circuits clearing away empty packaging etc.. If you get there, before the cleaner does, you might have walk around some crap, but hey, it’s places like these where you can find a great bargain.

How to get there: take the subway mtr line 1 to Huagiang Lu, and take exit a, or take line 2 to Huaqiang North station . Walk north along Huaqiang Lu and once you cross Zhenhua Road go past NICO Womens World and in between NICO/KFC and MOI/Starbucks you’ll see a wide lane way that leads to the market.
